Let’s Make Line Plots! Math Worksheets for 2nd and 3rd Grade
Your students probably are familiar with different graphs, such as bar graphs and pictographs, but how well do they understand line plots? While line plots can be used to represent different types of data, they are typically used when recording different measurements at the elementary level.
Teach Starter has created a set of differentiated worksheets to help your students put their measurement and graphing skills together. This printable resource includes three levels, each designated with 1, 2 or 3 stars in the upper right-hand corner.
Level 1 – Students will measure 12 different items to the nearest whole number and plot the data on a labeled line plot.
Level 2 – Students will measure 14 different items to the nearest ¼ inch increment and plot the data on a labeled line plot.
Level 3 – Students will measure 14 different items to the nearest ¼ inch increment, create the labels for the line plot and chart the data.
How to Use Our Differentiated Line Plot Worksheets
Teachers can choose to focus on one type of level or distribute the worksheets according to student ability. Students will need to have a copy of the measurement page, complete with different items to measure, as well as the line plot page. Provide students with a ¼ inch ruler or single-inch ruler, depending on the level you are assigning.
Once the objects have been measured by the students, they should record the measurements on the side of each item. Following this, the students can proceed to create their line plots and respond to the relevant questions.
