Subordinating Conjunctions Interactive Activity

Teaching subordinating conjunctions in your grammar lessons? Subordinating conjunctions serve several important functions in a sentence, one of which is to show cause and effect.

Subordinating conjunctions that indicate cause and effect relationships connect the cause (reason) to the effect (result) in a sentence.

These subordinating conjunctions help establish a cause-and-effect relationship between the main clause and the subordinate clause, providing context and explaining why something happened.

Use this interactive digital activity to help students identify cause and effect subordinating conjunctions, and construct sentences using them.

The subordinating conjunctions included in this activity are:

  • After
  • While
  • Until
  • Even though
  • If
  • Unless
  • Whenever
  • Since

In this read-and-type-style digital activity, students are required to read a question, and use the given subordinating conjunction to form and type a complete sentence to answer the question using that cause and effect conjunction.
