Teaching About Instincts and Learned Behaviors? We Can Help!

Dive into the world of animal behaviors and traits with new Teach Starter Resources! We’ve been busy building new tools and printable resources to help your elementary-grade students distinguish between behaviors that are hardwired from birth (instincts) and those acquired through experiences and teachings (learned behaviors). Our printable resources are easy to use, meticulously reviewed, and created by teachers just like you!

Read & Sort to Identify Learned Behaviors and Instincts

Designed with the elementary curriculum in mind, our sorting activity seamlessly blends into your classroom life science lessons. This printable resource included 24 scenario cards depicting an instinct or learned animal behavior. Students will read each scenario and sort them onto the correct sorting mat to demonstrate understanding.

Students are prompted to think critically about the origins of behaviors by evaluating and sorting scenarios, encouraging them to closely analyze and discuss each scenario with peers.
