# Diving Into Decimals – Google Slides Interactive Activity

• Pages:  1

• Curriculum:  CCSS, TEKS

Use this interactive activity to take a deep dive into decimals while improving skills with decimal operations and place value concepts.

## Decimal Place Value

Place value is a topic that students learn from a very early age. They begin to understand the difference between hundreds, tens, and ones and extend this understanding to larger numbers. Once students enter 5th grade, they learn to recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.

If you are in need of a fun and interactive activity for your students to practice these skills, have no fear! Teach Starter has put together a collection of activities for your students to practice decimal place value skills. This interactive activity will practice place value skills which include:

• Determining 1/10, 1/100, 10 times, and 100 times a numbers
• Build numbers with place value riddles
• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide with decimals
• Matching decimals written in word form, standard form, and expanded form
• And more!

This activity aims to practice place value through the thousandths place, operations involving decimals, and problem-solving using place value relationships.

## Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your math lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through guided math groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts:

### 🆘 Support Struggling Students

For students who need additional support, allow for the use of a place value chart as a reference tool. Students can work one-on-one with the teacher or with a peer tutor.

### ➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students needing a challenge, edit the numbers to make them more complex and/or larger. Extend the learning after the slides by having students write true and false sentences about various numbers, help classmates with their work, or create their own tutorials about decimal place value.

### 🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.

## Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Assign this interactive activity in Google Classroom. Please be sure to open in Edit mode, not presentation mode. Students will drag and drop, use the paint bucket tool, and type in responses to complete the activities.
