Draw shapes on grid paper using dice numbers as dimensions and calculate each area and perimeter.

🎲 Roll to Create Shapes with Our Area & Perimeter Worksheet

Use this independent practice worksheet to support your area and perimeter lesson.

Each player will need a set of dice and their own colored pencil.

Players take turns rolling their dice, using one number for the length and the other for the width to draw and color a rectangle or square on the grid paper provided. Then they’ll calculate the perimeter and area inside or next to their shape. Players take turns creating shapes and calculating the measurements until they run out of space.

Through this activity, students demonstrate an ability to find the area and perimeter of a rectangle or square with whole numbers.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

This measurement worksheet was designed for independent practice or as a partner activity. We also suggest making copies to use as a:

Students who need more of a challenge can reverse the game by rolling two dice and creating a shape with the perimeter or area rolled. For example, if a player rolls a 1 and 6, they draw a shape with a perimeter or area of 16.

Support struggling students by focusing on either perimeter or area, not both.
