I Have, Who Has Game – Numbers 1–20

Practice counting to 20 with this whole class game!

To play, shuffle the deck and hand one card to each student. Students will count the objects on their cards silently. The student who has “I have the first card” will go first. The student who has the matching number of objects will read their card next. Play will continue until all cards have been read.

Through this activity, students will show they can use one-to-one correspondence skills to recognize a number up through 20.

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by using the fishbowl method before playing. Gather a small group of students together in the center of the room. Have the group model how to play the game before the whole class joins in. Additionally, provide access to previous assignments, as well as posters and anchor charts for students to recall past lessons.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to create an addition or subtraction equation to equal the number on their card.

🛴 Scoot Activity

Place the cards around the room and give each student a piece of paper to write their answers. Assign students or pairs to a starting point card. Give students time to review the card and record their answer in the corresponding space on their paper. Students will rotate to the next card when you say, “SCOOT!” Continue in this manner until students return to their starting point.

💃 Mirror Game🕺

This activity works best with small groups because you’ll need enough dry-erase boards and markers for each student. Divide your class into 2 groups seated in 2 lines facing each other. Project a task card and give students a set time to record their answers on their board. On your cue, the students turn their boards around so their partner can see their answers. If both students in a pair have the correct answer, they get 2 points. If one has the correct answer, the team gets 1 point.
