Why Do We Need to Teach About Choices and Consequences?

As teachers, we have an important role in helping young people learn about the impact of the choices they make in life. This is something that goes beyond just learning from books and subjects. Teaching about choices and consequences in the classroom can help students learn important life skills. This is very important for their personal, academic and professional growth. By learning about this topic, students can become more confident in making decisions and can navigate life more wisely.

SEL Games for Elementary Students

With this board game, students will practice thinking about the results of their actions. To play the game, the player will roll the number cube and move forward that number of spaces. The student will then read the directions on the space and move accordingly.  If the player lands on a magic ball, they will choose a card and finish the sentence. The player who gets to the finish line first wins!

Some of the example scenarios your students will encourage include:

• If I eat too many sweets, then…
• If I am honest with my parents, then…
• If I stay up too late on a school night, then…
• If I offer to help clean the kitchen, then…

Students will be presented with a variety of scenarios that they may experience at both home and school.
