Taking Gravity Further – The Equivalence Principle

Once your students have an understanding of what the force of gravity is, why not demonstrate gravity in action? A great way of doing this is to demonstrate the equivalence principle using a couple of basic items – two balls of different sizes are all you need for this simple classroom demonstration!

According to the equivalence principle, gravity treats all objects the same, regardless of their mass or weight. If you drop two objects of different sizes and weights from the same height, they will fall at the same speed and land at the same time. You can easily demonstrate the equivalence principle to your students by dropping two balls of differing sizes from the same height and watching them both hit the ground at the same time. Gravity in action!

4. Staple the pages along the left-side margin to create a booklet. 
5. Distribute to the students.
