Strengthen Those Maths Muscles – Addition Strategies
Are you currently going through the process of teaching the different addition strategies to your students? This set of addition strategy mats focuses on part/part/whole and tens frames, using the strip diagram model and drawing a model to allow students to see how several strategies can be used to solve simple addition problems.
How to Use This Resource
- Print out the number cards and fact cards.
- Cut apart the fact cards and shuffle.
- Cut apart the number cards and place them on the work mat.
- Students draw one fact card.
- Based on this fact, students fill out the addition strategy workmat.

It is advised to print the mats and laminate them so that students can use whiteboard markers and rub them off when finished. The number cards and fact cards can be printed on thick card rather than laminated so that we’re looking after the environment when we can!
