Build a Timeline of the Civil Rights Movement

Through this activity, students will organize the major events of the Civil Rights Movement. Beginning with the initial events and signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, this timeline worksheet takes students through the Jim Crow era, Montgomery Bus Boycotts, the March on Washington, and more…all the way through to the end of segregation and signing of the Voting Rights act of 1965.

Cut and Paste Timeline Worksheet

This timeline is a perfect activity for students to complete after a lesson on the main events that occurred during the Civil Rights Movement. Students will cut apart a series of statements and paste them chronologically on the Civil Rights Movement timeline diagram.

Students can complete this activity as a summarizing or culminating activity or use it as a reference in an interactive notebook. You could also display this resource in your classroom for students to reference during your discussions about the Civil Rights Movement.
