Brochures, tri-folds, and other foldables are excellent ways for students to demonstrate their writing, reading, and vocabulary skills in a fun, exciting way. It adds interest to research projects  and gets students interested in gathering information about a particular topic. If you’re looking for creative ideas for ways to teach your class about the major rivers in the United States, this is the place!

Students will use geography books, maps, and websites to research and gather information about different rivers in the United States. Once their research is complete, they will use this template to create an informational brochure highlighting their learning.

Through this activity, students can research, define, and describe the major rivers in the United States of America. Essential questions covered in this project are:

  • Where did the __________ River get its name?
  • Why is the __________ River important to the U.S.?
  • What is the ____________ River used for?
  • How do I locate the major rivers of the United States on a map?
