Bring some colourful fun into your classroom with these symmetry butterflies, a hands-on learning activity for young students to explore the concept of symmetry.

Symmetry Butterfly Task Card Set

This beautiful and engaging resource will be a hit with your kids! Each student will require a copy of the work mat included and select a task card. Using the 1-sided symmetry example, students will replicate and then extend the design using pattern blocks on their work mat, before checking the answer key and moving on to the next beautiful butterfly to build!

To play:

Students choose a task card. They then use pattern blocks to build the left side of the butterfly on your work mat.

Students then complete the butterfly by building the right side of the butterfly design on the line of symmetry.

Through this activity, students will show that they can copy and continue mathematical patterns with objects.
