Lines of Symmetry Poster/Visual Aide 

Teaching about symmetry in your geometry lessons? You’ll need a copy of this colourful and clear poster, which steps students through how to determine whether a shape has a line of symmetry! 

Developed by teachers, our maths resources are easy to download, print and use – and students love them!

The student instructions on this symmetry poster are easy to follow, and use known mathematical language to explain this process:

1. Look at the shape. Could it be evenly folded in half? If the answer is yes, the shape is symmetrical!
2. Imagine you are turning the shape on its edge. Are there other ways the shape could be folded to create two segments that are the same? If the answer is yes, there are additional lines of symmetry.

Make the Most of Your Lines of Symmetry Poster!

There are many ways to use this symmetry poster in your classroom:

1. Print the poster on A3 paper and display it for students to reference when doing independent geometry work.
2. Print the poster on A4 paper, slip it into a clear sleeve, and use it in your guided maths groups as a reminder.
3. Print the poster on A4 paper, slide it into a clear sleeve, and hang it on a ring as a reference tool for a resource centre. 
4. Send the poster home in students’ homework books or folders to assist with their homework completion.
