Identify contractions and the words they replace with a printable Halloween Contractions Activity for Year 2.

Teaching Contractions on The Go!

A contraction is a shortened form of two words with an apostrophe taking the place of the omitted letter(s), e.g. do not = don’t. Once students learn where to put the apostrophe, contractions are a breeze! That’s where this resource comes in. It is the perfect way to bring in a lively game of SCOOT!

This get-up–and-go activity makes contractions way more engaging! This visually appealing set of spooktacular Halloween-themed task cards is the perfect tool to use to review contractions during the weeks leading up to Halloween. To use this resource,

  1. Hang the numbered task cards around the room and provide each student with a recording sheet.
  2. Have a student stationed at each card and have them answer that question. Once they have answered the question, tell the students to SCOOT!
  3. Students will move to the next numbered card in order, repeating the process until they’ve completed all cards.
  4. When complete, review the questions together or have students self-check using the answer key.

Through this activity, students will show their ability to make, use, and spell contractions.
