Turn your compound word lessons into a fun game with an interactive Compound Word Game Show activity!

Combining Words Has Never Been So Fun!

If you had planned on using worksheets to practise compound words with your students, think again! Your students will delight in playing a round or two of Compound Word Trivia, our newest Google Slides game for kids!

Inspired by the game of Jeopardy, the Compound Words Trivia game provides your students with a competitive way to practise and review making, identifying, and using compound words! With the 25 included questions, your students will experience a variety of question types, including

  • Completing sentences using compound words
  • Combining two words to form a compound word
  • Writing sentences using compound words
  • Combining words and drawing examples of compound words
  • Determining if a word is a compound word

NOTE: We recommend going in number order from the top down and through the columns from left to right. This ensures that no questions get skipped or used twice.

How to Play This Compound Word Classroom Game

To play, have students get a sheet of paper or whiteboard to write their answers on. Then, follow the instructions below.

  1. Have students choose a question from the grid and click to display it on the screen.
  2. Once students have solved the problem, they must hold up their whiteboards to show their answers.
  3. Then, click to reveal the answer.
  4. If students are correct, they get the points for that question. If incorrect, they do not earn points.
  5. This game can be played in two ways. You can have students work independently to earn points by answering questions, or they can work as teams, and you can have one student from each team come to the board to play the game. For this game, you’ll need some sort of noise-making object (a bell, buzzer, squeaky toy) for students to use to ‘buzz’ in.
