Garden Design Project

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF | 10 pages | Years: 2 - 5

Your students' task is to develop their own plan for a garden.

Your students could plan a vegetable garden, a flower garden or maybe even a bonsai garden. The design and contents of their garden is completely up to them!

To begin, your class will need to select the types of plants and features (like rocks, paths and water) in the garden. Next, they will need to plan the layout.

As the students work on their garden, they can make sure they have completed all of the tasks required by using the Garden Plan Checklist.

This activity is great for basic mathematics, design and creative thinking.

It would be tops if you could add grid references to the garden plans. That would cover another aspect.

How can students work out the cost of garden items without some sort of price list?

Hi Andrew, Due to the large number of possible choices the students could make regarding their garden design, we thought a price list would be very limiting in its scope. I would suggest visiting a site which provides gardening supplies in your local area which the students might be able to draw from. If there is anything else I can assist you with, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi, I love this garden project. Is it possible to make the template editable or provide a 10 x 10 grid or 20 x 20 grid to assist with difference in scale? Thanks
