Recognising Trusted People in the Community

Learning how to keep themselves safe when out and about in the big, wide world is a highly valuable skill for children to learn. It is vital that young people know who the trusted people in their community are and what those people do to help them stay safe and healthy.

To complete this mini-book, students complete sentences to name different community helpers based on their service. They can then draw a picture representing that community helper in the space provided. In addition, two pages are included that guide students through identifying the tools or resources they use to provide a service to the community.

Through this activity, students will be able to answer the following questions:

  • What is a community helper?
  • What are different jobs that help the community?
  • Who are the helpers in my community?

🆘 Support Struggling Students

  • Help students who need support by completing this mini-book in a 1-on-1 setting or with a small group. Additionally, invite students to reference previous lessons, assignments, or posters to help them complete their mini-book.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

  • For students who may need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to make lists, draw pictures, or write new sentences to add to their books.
