Help students practise their knowledge of 3-digit numbers with this place value worksheet that covers MAB blocks, standard form, and expanded form.

Standard vs Expanded Forms

Expanded and standard forms are two essential ways to represent numbers in mathematics. Standard form, or the numerical form, is the most straightforward representation of a number, where the digits are arranged in their usual place value order. The expanded form breaks down a number into its constituent parts, emphasizing the value of each digit’s place within the number. Expanded form is a valuable tool for teaching students about place value and understanding the composition of numbers.

In this worksheet, students will show their understanding of 3-digit place value numbers with how to read and write using Base Ten blocks, standard form, and expanded form.

A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on cardstock and slip them into dry-erase sleeves. Students can record their answers with a dry-erase marker, then erase and reuse.

Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their math notebooks.
