Seasonal Effects on Plants and Animals

If your grade one students are learning about seasons in science, this fun flipbook craftivity will help them to describe seasonal changes in the environment and explore how these changes affect everyday life.

This downloadable seasons booklet has eight flaps that include the following:

  • Cover Page
  • Seasonal Changes (Conditions)
  • Hibernation
  • Migration
  • Adaptation
  • Dormancy
  • Camouflage
  • Reflection (What did you learn?)

Through this activity, students will investigate how seasonal changes affect plants and animals, including animals that hibernate and migrate.

✂️ Teacher Tips for This Seasons Activity

Some thoughtful lesson prep will help to make this learning experience run smoothly for you and your students!

For students to DIY:

Give each student a set of the writing pages (run them off on the copier as sets so you don’t have to sort them all post-printing!)

Have students cut out each flipbook page along the dotted line.

Once all six pages are cut apart, have students stack them from largest to smallest, lining up the top.

Staple together across the top to assemble the flipbook!

To support students with the assembly:

In order for your students to focus on the questions (and not the cutting and assembly!), consider printing the pages individually for the number of students, and then using a paper slicer to cut them in bulk.

Line them up on the floor in your classroom and call students forward to collect each sheet along the line, until they have their full set. You could be waiting at the end of the ‘production line’ with your stapler at the ready to combine the pages and save them from being misplaced!
