Cut and Paste Fraction Worksheet

When first learning about the concept of a fraction, students should be introduced to the understanding that all pieces should be equal. Regardless of how many pieces there are or what the full shape looks like, each partitioned piece should be the same.

Teach Starter has created a set of worksheets for your students to demonstrate an understanding of equal and unequal parts. This download includes a worksheet for

  • halves
  • thirds
  • quarters
  • eighths.

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

If there are students who would like an additional challenge, encourage them to draw additional shapes that are partitioned into the same number of pieces.

For students who need support, consider using fraction circles or concrete models to help them see how each piece is the same size. Students can stack the pieces on top of each other and observe how they are the same size.
