Have students practise how to convert a fraction to a decimal with this match-up activity perfect for maths rotations.

Convert a Decimal to a Fraction

Are your students practising how to convert between fractions and decimals? They may be using their division skills to divide the denominator by the numerator to determine the equivalent decimal value. If you are in need of an activity that your students can complete independently, Teach Starter has a match-up activity that your students can use.

This converting fractions and decimals activity includes 32 different puzzle pieces that students will match up in order to create 16 different two-piece puzzles. Students simply match up the cards so that each fraction has an equivalent decimal value.

This maths matching game downloads as a full-colour printable PDF or editable Google Slides file. It includes:

  • Instructions
  • 16 x puzzles
  • Answer key

Through completing this activity, students will practise converting between decimals and fractions.

  • True or False Challenge – Place the cards in sets around the room and have students determine which are correctly matched and which are incorrect.
  • Ordering Activity – Sort the fraction and decimal cards into separate piles. Have students order the cards from least to greatest or place them on number lines.
  • Bell Ringer Task – Project a card for your students to see as soon as they enter the classroom. Have students write either the corresponding fraction or decimal on a piece of paper or in their workbooks. Collect the papers or discuss the answers as a group.
