Soil is one of the cornerstones that supports life on Planet Earth. It supports and nurtures plants, provides habitats for creatures great and small, and allows humans to access resources such as crops for food, fibres for clothes, and materials for building.
What better way to appreciate the diversity and value of soil than by experiencing it firsthand? So grab your sun-safe hats and gardening gloves, it’s time to take your class on a nature walk!
This nature walk brochure template has been designed by our expert teacher team to support you in teaching your students about the importance of soil to plants, animals and humans. Using the template, students will be able to draw their location, record their findings and reflect on how soil contributes to the ecosystem. Students will:
- Illustrate their location
- Record activity in the location
- Note the presence of plants, animals and human interactions
- Note any questions or wonderings about the ecosystem
- Consider the importance of healthy soil to the ecosystem
