Teaching More and Less to Reception Pupils? We Can Help!

Count and compare activities are a great way to help pupils see, visualise and represent numbers in multiple ways. They’re also crucial for learning how to use and apply numbers. Blending one-to-one counting exercises with number-comparing activities is a great way to combine skills and grow students’ confidence in mathematics.

This pair of Halloween worksheets test their counting and comparison skills. Pupils are provided with a large set of Halloween objects to observe. They will count and record the total number of each object in a table and then apply those numbers to four comparative maths questions. Questions are written in a rebus style to make it easier for early readers to interact with the content.

Through this activity, pupils will show they can count objects up to ten and answer comparative questions regarding their findings.
