Wondering How to Find the Volume of a Shape?

Are your students beginning their unit on volume? They may be learning the basics of how to stack unit cubes in a shape to determine the volume. Or perhaps they are starting to use the formula, V=L×W×H. Regardless of where you may be in your instructional unit, these vocabulary cards can make a great classroom addition to your lessons covering this topic. Not only do students have to remember the formula for volume, but there are several more words related to this concept that are important to know!

With this resource, you will be able to download 15 vocabulary cards with a definition and picture on each. The words included in this resource are volume, 2D figure, 3D figure, unit, unit cube, base, length, width, height, rectangular prism, faces, volume formula, cubic unit, composite figure, and area of the base.

How to Use Math Word Wall Cards

There are many different ways you can use vocabulary cards in your classroom. These cards can make a beautiful addition to a bulletin board or math focus wall. With each unit, you can change out the associated vocabulary terms.

Vocabulary games are also a must in the classroom! Encourage students to engage in activities such as “Quiz, Quiz, Trade” or a guessing game where students draw a picture of the vocabulary word for others to guess.
