Read 2nd Grade Level Sight Words With Ease

Through this activity, students will show they can recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words from the second-grade Dolch words list.

To play, students will read the sight words on their cards and use colored connection cubes to cover the words.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

Challenge fast finishers who already understand the concept to practice using the synonyms in a sentence (orally or written, depending on proficiency).

Support students who need help understanding the concepts by referring to your Grade 2 word wall cards or anchor chart as a reminder.

One Game = Many Sight Word Activities!

We created this resource for your reading center as an independent practice activity. We also suggest using it to reinforce your small group and full-class lessons in the following ways:

🖍️ Draw It!

Use this activity for a formative assessment. Project a game board for your class to see. Have each student pick 3 sight words and write them on a separate sheet of paper. Then, have the students draw a picture for each word, showing they’ve read the word and understand what it is.

🐶 BINGO

Use your game cards to play a game of Blackout BINGO! Print a Dolch Grade 2 Sight Words list as a calling sheet. To play, call off one sight word at a time for students to find on their board. If they have the word they cover it with a connecting cube. The first student to cover all their words wins! You can also play 4 corners for a shorter game.

🔤 Alphabetical Ordering

After students finish the game, challenge them to put the sight words on their cards alphabetically on a separate sheet of paper.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Print on cardstock for added durability and longevity. Place all pieces in a folder or large envelope for easy access.
