Share Ruby Bridges’ Story with Your Students

Celebrate Black History Month by learning about Ruby Bridges. In 1960, this courageous 6-year-old became a symbol of the civil rights movement as the first Black student to integrate into an all-white school in the American South.

In this 2-page worksheet, students will read an informational passage about Ruby and her role in the desegregation of schools. They’ll practice word recognition, decode unknown words and phrases through context clues, and answer 4 reading comprehension questions to confirm they grasp the importance of Ruby’s brave action.

An answer key is included with this resource for easy grading.
