Revise the key structural elements of the persuasive text type with this informal letter.

Use this worksheet as part of your writing lesson when introducing the structure of a persuasive text.

Students read the informal letter provided on the worksheet. They are then required to:

  • Circle the writer’s opinion
  • Underline the 2 supporting reasons for their opinion
  • Place a star next to the restatement of the opinion
  • Put a box around the call to action

Persuasive Text Worksheet: Scaffolding & Extension Tips 

Got fast finishers? Students who need an extra challenge can write a letter back to Jillian, taking on the persona of one of her parents.

Students who need extra support may benefit from completing the activity in a small group setting with regular teacher support.

A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource

Hand out the worksheets to students to complete as an exit ticket after your persuasive writing lesson, or send it with students as a homework assignment. 

In addition to individual student work time, you can also print multiple copies and slip them into dry-erase sheets for an erasable and sustainable writing center activity.

You can also project the worksheet on your smartboard and complete it with your class as a pre-lesson introduction or review.
