Find the Perimeter of Shapes

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to get your students applying perimeter formulae to common 2D shapes? This one-page worksheet is exactly what you need!

Follow the steps below to get started!

  1. Introduction to Perimeter – Start by introducing the concept of perimeter to your students, explaining that perimeter is the sum of all sides of a shape.
  2. Worksheet Overview – Provide an overview of the perimeter worksheet, explaining that it contains six different shapes, each with varying numbers of sides. Let students know that they will be calculating the perimeter of each shape using a relevant formula or process.
  3. Metric and Customary Units – Highlight the use of both metric and customary units. Discuss real-world applications of each unit system, such as measuring a room’s perimeter in feet or meters.
  4. Worksheet Completion – Allow students to work through the worksheet at their own pace. Provide guidance and assistance as needed, especially for students who may struggle with the concept.
  5. Review and Discussion – After completing the worksheet, review the answers as a class. An answer sheet has been provided to make this process quick and easy!

Extend These Drawing Perimeter Worksheets

Are you looking for ways to support the needs of all students while using these drawing perimeter worksheets? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Stick with Smaller Side Lengths – If you have students who may find the dimensions on this worksheet too tricky to work with, then we suggest altering the dimensions so they are more workable for less-confident students.
  • Extend with Word Problems – If you have students who thrive when given a challenge, then we suggest asking these students to write word problems for each of the shapes on the worksheet. Be sure the students understand that their word problems must make sense in light of the measurements attached to each shape.

Download These Perimeter Worksheets

Use the Download button to access the easy-print PDF. Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

No time to get to the photocopier? No problem! Just project the worksheet onto your interactive whiteboard and have the students copy the shapes and answers into their notebooks.

Hi Tracy! Thanks for reaching out. It looks like you are viewing the US version of this resource, which includes customary units of measurement. The AU version of this worksheet, which includes metric measurements, can be found here: https://www.teachstarter.com/au/teaching-resource/perimeter-worksheets-au/. Hopefully this helps. Have a great day!
