1st and 2nd Grade Fraction Worksheets

Are your students ready to explore basic fraction concepts? When learning fractions, students often learn to recognize equal and unequal parts and how to partition a shape into equal parts. They also learn to identify shapes that have been divided into halves, thirds, fourths, etc.

With this worksheet pack, students are introduced to the concept of halves, thirds, fourths, and eighths. On each worksheet, students must:

  • Determine which shapes are cut equally into the given number of parts
  • Partition shapes
  • Color one piece of each shape to represent the unit fraction

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

If students need an additional challenge, encourage them to create two shapes that show the same amount shaded in but are composed of different-sized pieces. This is a skill they will further develop when exploring equivalent fractions.

Encourage students who need additional support to start with the “Halves” worksheet first. Provide guidance in a small group or 1-on-1 setting.
