Native American Tribes of Texas – 4th Grade History

Do you feel ready to teach your 4th-grade Texas history students about Native Americans in Texas? With this mini book and other Teach Starter resources, you can be confident in your content knowledge without spending a ton of time prepping!

Teach Texas Native Americans Standards with Ease

Use a printable mini book and accompanying activities to help your students learn about the many Native American tribes that settled in Texas. Kids will read short passages about each tribe and complete comprehension and summarization activities to increase their understanding of different Native American groups.

The following Texas standards are the focus of this group of resources.

4.1 History. The student understands the origins, similarities, and differences of American Indian groups in Texas before European exploration. The student is expected to:

-(A) explain the possible origins of Native American groups in Texas;

-(B) identify and compare the ways of life of Native American  groups in Texas before European exploration, such as the Lipan Apache, Karankawa, Caddo, and Jumano;

-(C) describe the cultural regions in which Native Americans lived, such as Gulf, Plains, Puebloan, and Southeastern; and

-(D) locate Native American groups remaining in Texas, such as the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, Alabama-Coushatta, and Kickapoo.
