Looking for Synonym and Antonym Activities?

What are synonyms? What are antonyms? Why do we need them? And better yet, why do we need to teach them?

Synonyms are words that have the same or similar meanings. Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings. They are essential in reading and writing because they help to expand vocabulary, improve communication, and make writing more varied and exciting. Using synonyms also helps avoid repetition and makes writing sound more sophisticated.

Create a Thesaurus – A Book of Synonyms and Antonyms

This mini-book is the perfect tool to add to your students’ writing toolkits! Start them off with the printable template and a thesaurus. Students will use a thesaurus to locate three synonyms and three antonyms for twelve grossly-overused words. Once complete, students will have their very own portable thesaurus to reference when they revise their writing.
