Wondering How to Teach Multiplication to Grade 3 Students?
Once students get to third grade, math becomes a bit more complex and exciting! Students continue their student of place value, addition and subtraction, but they are also introduced to the wonderful world of multiplication! Whether this is your first time teaching this concept to beginning learners or you are looking for a refresher, read on for some strategies to help your students understand multiplication!
Before diving straight into memorizing math facts, students must understand the concept of multiplication and how they arrive at an answer. This can be done in a variety of ways and methods. Here are some of the most commonly used methods to teach multiplication:
- Multiplication arrays
- Equal groups
- Jumps on a number line
- Repeated addition
- Skip counting
It is helpful for students to have exposure to many different strategies to figure out which method works best for them as they build their understanding of multiplication.
