📏 Measuring to the Nearest ¼ Inch Game

Are you looking for a fun way for your students to practice their measurement skills? This resource will encourage a bit of healthy competition while practicing how to read a ruler.

To play, the first player draws a card and determines the length of the object. If the answer is correct, the player spins the spinner and moves the appropriate number of spaces. If the answer is incorrect, it is the next player’s turn.

Through this activity, students will show they can measure a variety of items to the nearest ¼ inch.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your math lessons.

In addition to partner work time, use this measuring length game to enhance learning through guided math groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by assisting with reading the ruler. Point of the nearest inch, then show students where the first quarter inch marker is following. Proceed to the half-inch mark and three-quarters mark, or until the correct mark is reached to read the measurement. Additionally, provide access to previous assignments, as well as posters and anchor charts for students to recall past lessons.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to create a line plot showing the card measurements.
