A hands-on activity to practice initial sounds.

Use this teaching resource in the classroom when learning to identify the initial sounds of words.

This foundational language activity is ideal to use in your reading small groups or as a reading center activity.

  • Print this resource on cardstock to ensure durability.
  • Cut along the dotted lines to create small activity cards.
  • Provide your students with the cards and a bucket of clothespins.
  • Students say the sound of the letter shown, then determine the initial sound for each image below. They will clip a clothespin on the image that makes the same initial sound as the letter.

This is a great way to work on those fine motor skills too!
