Build a Fire Prevention Week writing center in your classroom with illustrated Fire Safety Vocabulary word wall cards.

Fire Prevention? Writing Center? We Can Do That…

October is coming, meaning Fire Prevention Week will arrive in a few short weeks. Before long, you’ll be prepping your classroom to teach your students about firefighters, firetrucks, and all things fire-related. Why not take your instruction one step further and blend Fire Prevention Week and Writing Centers?

An illustrated word wall is the perfect foundation for a Fire Safety Center! This set of 24 Fire Safety word wall cards will give you an easy way to encourage your young writers to write during Fire Prevention week. Print the color or blackline version of your choice and cut apart the cards. Some ideas for display include

  • Display the cards on a Fire Safety bulletin board in the classroom and have students use the word wall for reference.
  • Place the cards in a pocket chart in your classroom writing center as writing inspiration during Writer’s Workshop.
  • Pull a grouping of cards into small-group instruction and use them as story starters or discussion prompts before having students write.

Fire safety activities don’t have to be complicated. Print this set of fire prevention vocabulary cards, and your writing center is stocked for the whole week, maybe even longer!

Just a few of the terms in this set include

  • Alarm
  • Helmet
  • Turnout coat
  • Extinguisher
  • Emergency
  • And more!
