Procedural Writing – How to Make S’mores

Are you looking for a “sweet” activity to wrap up the school year? Use these graphic organizers and mini-books to get your students excited about summer!

To complete this activity, print each student’s graphic organizers and mini-book. The brainstorming activities can be completed independently, with a partner, or as a whole class activity. Students will use sensory details and sequential steps to create their “How to Make S’mores” mini-book. Encourage students to draw a picture for each step.

Through this activity, students will show they can brainstorm details and write and compose a “how-to” piece of writing.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your end-of-year lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this writing activity to enhance learning through guided writing groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by brainstorming as a class or small group. Students can then use these ideas to fill in their graphic organizers.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to trade their mini-book with a partner so they can read each other’s ideas.
