End of Year STEM Project – Carnival Creator

The Carnival Creator Project is a fun way for your students to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

Students will design their carnival and advertise it to visitors in this project. Students will use their creativity, analytical skills, organizational strategies, critical thinking skills, and imagination to complete different tasks to develop their businesses. The project provides opportunities for students to:

  • Brainstorm ideas for a carnival.
  • Choose carnival items and find the total area for each item.
  • Design the layout by adding the dimensions of each item to the map.
  • Advertise the carnival by creating a promotional flyer.
  • Reflect on the carnival and the design process.

Why is STEM Important in Early Childhood Education?

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education prepares students to succeed in their careers. The skills gained from STEM activities extend far beyond the classroom walls. By experiencing STEM education in elementary school, students develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills and learn to be curious and creative thinkers.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your Science lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this STEM project to enhance learning through partner projects, whole-class discussions, or remote learning opportunities.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Assist students with learning challenges by participating in brainstorming and listing conversations with them.

Discuss the different features and how those features might contribute to their overall design idea.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Encourage fast finishers to create a large-scale depiction of their carnival, write a newspaper ad, or create a slide show advertising their location.
