Long Division Word Problems

Are your students in need of additional practice with word problems and long division? While your students may want to bring out a calculator to solve these problems, it is important for them to understand how to divide by multi-digit divisors. Additionally, students also need practice in determining what they should do if there is a remainder in a word problem. Sometimes they need the remainder for their answer; sometimes, they need to round up, and other times they need to drop it.

Teach Starter has created a worksheet where students will solve 12 questions and must use long division to solve word problems.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding 

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

If there are students who need a bit of a challenge, have them explain their reasoning on the questions that should have had remainders but were required to round up or down to the nearest whole number.

For students who need a bit of support, provide a multiplication chart to help with basic facts. Additionally, this worksheet can be completed in a small group or 1-on-1 setting.
