Practice expanded notation, word form, and standard form using decimals with this set of 13 three-piece puzzles.

## Make Decimal Place Value Less Puzzling!

Word form, standard form, expanded notation… OH MY! Do your students need some practice with representing decimals in different ways? Teach Starter has you covered with our decimal form puzzles!

To complete this activity, give students the cut-apart puzzle cards. Students will work independently or together to find the correct matches. Each completed puzzle will show the number in standard form, word form, and expanded notation.

Through this activity, students will show they can represent decimals through the thousandths place using word form, expanded notation, and numerals.

## Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your math lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use these decimal puzzles to enhance learning through guided math groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

### 🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need support understanding the concepts by limiting the number of puzzle pieces. Rather than students matching three puzzle pieces, students can match just two. Additionally, provide access to previous assignments, as well as posters and anchor charts for students to recall past lessons.

### ➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to create their own decimal form puzzles and give them to a friend to solve.

🏃 Relay Race

Divide students into two team lines and give each student a mini whiteboard. Show a puzzle piece to the students at the front of each line. The student that writes a correct decimal form (standard, expanded, or word) first wins the flashcard. The team with the most flashcards at the end of the game wins!
