Phoneme Segmentation Practice for the Primary Classroom

The ability to manipulate the distinct sounds in words is an essential skill when it comes to reading and writing. For this reason, it is important to provide our littlest readers and writers with as many opportunities as possible to practice this skill.

Some of the easiest words in our language to decode and encode are CVC, CVCC and CCVC words. This is because they contain basic consonant sounds and the five short vowel sounds. This set of over 100 CVC, CVCC and CCVC flashcards has been designed to help your students become more familiar with these common words so they may become more proficient when reading and writing them.
