Increase vocabulary and build background knowledge about Columbus Day with a set of vocabulary word wall cards.

Columbus Day Activities for the Classroom

When is Columbus Day? This U.S. federal holiday commemorates when Christopher Columbus first set foot in the Americas. In the USA, it is observed on the Second Monday in October.

This set of vocabulary cards is designed to help students make sense of the story of Christopher Columbus and his journey to the Americas in 1492. Each of the sixteen vocabulary cards contains a large-print, easy-to-read word and an image to aid in retention.

Through this activity, students will show increased vocabulary and understanding of why Columbus Day celebrations occur in the United States.
