Adjectives are the paint an author uses to create vivid pictures through their text. 🎨

Their descriptions offer details that transport the audience to a time or place, a feeling or memory, a sensation or emotion. Adjectives involve the five senses, and writers who write with those descriptive, sensory words produce better work.

We’ve put together a fun set of writing prompt slides for 2nd grade and up that are perfect for projecting as morning warmups. These are sure to prepare your students to use language to paint a picture.

Looking for Daily Descriptive Writing Prompts?

This Google Slides or PowerPoint narrative writing prompt presentation includes

  • 20 writing prompts for kids
  • The Word bank includes 9 different new and interesting sensory adjectives to use and include in their writings.
  • A graphic organizer is also included for students to use when writing each day, or they can write their responses in their writing journals.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

Challenge students who already understand the concept to write stories or make mini books of their own using the writing prompts and word banks as jumping-off points.

Support students who need help by completing the activity as a whole class or in a small group. Read the words and sentences on the slides and discuss word meanings before writing. You could also provide ESL students with sentence starters or sentence frames to help them with composition.

Hi Tony, This is a two-part resource. The PDF file is the recording sheet for your students' daily writings. The PowerPoint/Google Slides Files are the daily prompts to display for your students. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Have a great week!
