Australian Easter Resources for your Classroom

This beautifully designed Easter basket activity will help you incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture into your Easter lessons.

Aboriginal Art for Easter

Did you know that Aboriginal women made baskets by weaving grass, roots or reeds?

Use traditional colours such as red, white and brown to colour the basket, then cut along the outside lines and fold along the dashed lines. To construct, put glue on the shaded sections and join up the sides. Attach the handle with glue or staples, and for a finishing touch (and to take care of those Easter eggs!) place some soft straw/grass or cotton in the basket.

This Easter craft activity can be used in several ways:

✂️ Give Them the (Safety) Scissors

This template makes for a bonus cutting skills activity, depending on your students’ ages and abilities.

With adult supervision, cutting skills help students work multiple muscle groups and their brains, plus:

• strengthen finger and hand muscles
• build dexterity and fine motor skills
• improve hand-eye coordination
• develop focus and attention.

And all of these skills are necessary to use a pencil and a fork; button a shirt and tie shoes; write, type and swipe.

Scissor skills are brain and muscle skills!
