Teach your students how to find equivalent fractions by using a number line, shaded models or a fraction chart with this teaching presentation.

## Equivalent Fractions for Year 4

Are you looking for an instructional slide deck for your year 4 classroom? Teach Starter has a 24-slide presentation ready for you to lead a lesson on equivalent fractions and how to use them to solve problems.

So what are some of the different ways to teach your students to understand equivalent fractions? This slide deck highlights strategies such as:

• using number lines
• using a fraction chart.

Once students understand how to represent equivalent fractions with models, they are ready to learn how to use multiplication and division to generate fractions with the same values.

Teachers will lead their class or small group through the presentation, encouraging students to participate by writing down the information or problems as directed in the slideshow. There are many opportunities for students to discuss and share throughout the lesson as well.

## Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your fraction lessons.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

### 🆘 Support Struggling Students

For students needing additional support, provide a printed copy of the slideshow for them to follow along at their desks. Encourage them to highlight important information as you go. Be sure to assist students in solving each question as needed. Provide (and remind them to use) fraction manipulatives.

### ➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Upon completion of the slideshow, challenge students by asking them to create a set of notes that a teacher could provide on this topic. Set the scenario as, ‘Imagine one of your classmates was absent today. Create a summarised page of notes that teaches this information to them clearly and helpfully.’ It may be helpful to share a copy of the slideshow with students for them to reference while they make the notes, as well as anytime later in the unit when they need it.
