Teach about the new Seven Wonders of the World with this informative mini-book for year 5 and year 6 students.

What Are the New Seven Wonders of the World?

Did you know that the Seven Wonders of the World are not the same as they used to be? This printable mini-bookfor year 5 and year 6 has been designed to introduce your students to the new Seven Wonders of the World. It describes each historical site using age-appropriate language and images. By engaging with this resource, students will read and learn about the following:

  • The Great Wall of China (China)
  • Chichén Itzá (Mexico)
  • Petra (Jordan)
  • Machu Picchu (Peru)
  • Christ the Redeemer (Brazil)
  • The Roman Colosseum (Italy)
  • The Taj Mahal (India).

In the year 2000, a foundation in Switzerland decided it was time to update the list of world wonders (the original list was over two centuries old!). They launched an online contest, and millions of people around the world voted for their favourite. The New Seven Wonders of the World were finally announced in 2007. They consist of seven remarkable landmarks that amaze tourists and people around the world year after year. All of the sites are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Do you want to make sure your students have understood what they have read? We hear you! Each mini-book section contains a ‘Knowledge Check’ question about the historical site, providing teachers with a quick and easy method of assessing who has and who hasn’t grasped the overarching concepts.

How to Create Your Seven Wonders Mini-Book

This resource contains eight pages. Each A4 portrait page contains two mini-book pages. Once you download and prepare this resource, you will have a 16-page mini-book about the new Seven Wonders of the World!

To assemble the mini-book, follow these simple steps.

  1. Print out the resource. Create copies as required.
  2. Cut each page along the dotted line.
  3. Compile the pages in order.
  4. Staple the pages along the left-side margin to create a booklet.
  5. Distribute to the students.

Tips for Scaffolding and Extension

If you have a mixture of above- and below-level learners (and we’re sure that you do!), check out these suggestions for keeping all of your students on track with this resource:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Students with lower reading levels may benefit from having the mini-book read to them aloud in a small-group setting. These students may also benefit from having key vocabulary words explicitly explained during reading. They may also benefit from highlighting key information that may help them answer the ‘Knowledge Check’ section at the end.

Challenge High Fliers

Allow students who need more of a challenge to read and complete the mini-book independently. As an additional activity, encourage more-confident students to create their own mini-book page on one of the ‘old’ wonders that is no longer on the list!
