Stress Management Coping Skills for Kids

Stress is becoming more and more common in our students – between assignments, after-school responsibilities, and family obligations, it is easy for our students to feel pulled and stretched too thin. With stress in students climbing at an alarming rate, it is so important that we teach our students how to manage their stress.

Use this instructional guide to teach your students 4 different stress management techniques they can use at school or home!

Students will learn how to relieve stress using the following 4 techniques:

  • Guided Imagery
  • Progressive Muscle Relaxation
  • Self-Soothing Senses
  • Positive Affirmations.

Each page explains a different technique, provides step-by-step directions on how to perform the technique, and then asks a series of questions for students to answer.

This resource would be great to incorporate into a self-management lesson as part of your students’ social-emotional learning. It could also be used as a small-group lesson for students who are struggling with stress. Encourage your students to use the techniques any time they are feeling a bit overwhelmed or stressed.
