Explore Silent Letters with This Drag-and-Drop Activity

This interactive resource is the perfect learning tool for teaching students about silent letters! Your students will love being in the driver’s seat as they engage with this hands-on literacy resource by dragging and dropping their way around the silent letter activities.

The silent letters addressed in this resource are: l, h, w, g, k, b, n and t.

One Resource, Multiple Silent Letter Activities

This literacy resource includes a total of 20 slides containing 12 separate silent letter tasks. There are four different interactive activities contained within the resource:

  1. Which Word: Students look at the picture and decide which word is spelled correctly. They drag and drop the correct word into the box underneath the picture.
  2. Sentence Writing: Students choose two words from the selection of silent letter words on the slide and use them in a sentence by typing into the text box.
  3. Fill in the Blank: Students read the sentence and decide which word completes each sentence. They drag and drop the correct word on the blank line.
  4. Write the Word: Students complete the table by typing words that contain each of the silent letters. Students can also drag the words provided to the correct column.

Tips for Extension and Support

Diversify the learning experience for your students with these differentiation ideas:

  • Extend more-capable learners by having them write a story using the silent letter words from the interactive activity.
  • Support less-confident students by allowing them to complete the activity in a small group with the support of an adult.
