Prepositions and Positional Words Activity

Over, under, around, between… What do these words have in common? They are prepositions…positional words that allow students to better describe where objects are in relation to each other. Using prepositions is a critical component of primary writing instruction, and we’re building resources to take your writing instruction to the next level.

Challenge your early learners to use prepositions to describe the location of items in our interactive activity correctly.

With this set of interactive clip cards, students will drag and drop the correct prepositions to describe the location of objects in different pictures. Students will interact with a sweet black kitten, a bright bluebird, and a big box of soccer balls.

Through this activity, students will observe and describe the location of one object in relation to another. The following positional words are used in this activity.

  • Over
  • Under
  • Around
  • Between
  • Below
  • Above
  • Behind
  • In front of
  • Near
