Learn About Big Emotions

Understanding different emotions is important for children, but understanding how these emotions affect them personally is a crucial part of a child’s emotional development. This heart-themed template encourages children to think about how some of the big emotions affect them and what makes them feel a particular way. The different emotions that are covered in this activity include:

  • Mad
  • Proud
  • Scared
  • Excited
  • Happy

✂️ Give Them the (Safety) Scissors

This template makes for a bonus cutting skills activity, depending on your students’ ages and abilities.

With adult supervision, cutting

skills help students work multiple muscle groups and their brains, plus:

  • strengthen finger and hand muscles
  • build dexterity and fine motor skills
  • improve hand-eye coordination
  • develop focus and attention. And all of these skills are necessary to use a pencil and a fork; button a shirt and tie shoes; write, type and swipe.

Scissor skills are brain and muscle skills!

Download & Print

Download the PDF and have students complete each of the heart templates. To build the heart craft:

  1. Place the bottom layer down first (the heart shape with the word – sad).
  2. Continue to add each of the hearts pieces from largest to smallest.
  3. Finish the stack by placing the title page on top.
  4. Staple the heart layers together at the top.
  5. Make sure all pages are lined up at the top before stapling.
