Measuring Angles Worksheets for Year 5 and 6

Teachers, grab that box of protractors out of your classroom maths cupboard… it’s time to get your students measuring angles!

This set of differentiated worksheets has been designed by our experienced team of teachers to help your students practice using a protractor to measure acute, obtuse, right, straight and reflex angles. But be warned… these measuring angles worksheets are not for the faint-hearted! We’ve shaken things up a bit by moving away from traditional angles and providing images of real-life objects containing angles instead!

Each worksheet contains a blackline image. Students must mark and measure all of the angles contained within the image, then record the number of each angle type in the space provided. The images increase in complexity as the number of angles increases.

  • Worksheet 1 – Pencil (least challenging)
  • Worksheet 2 – Cake (moderately challenging)
  • Worksheet 3 – Dog  (most challenging)

Each worksheet also contains its own challenge task, which requires students to identify and colour additional angle types.

This set of three differentiated measuring angles worksheets can be downloaded as either an easy-print PDF or as an editable Google Slides document.

This resource would make a great addition to any lesson focused on measuring angles of various sizes using a protractor.

Extend This Angles Activity

This resource provides a solid springboard for practising how to measure angles of various sizes using a protractor.

Looking to take this turning activity further in your classroom? Have your students draw an image of their choice that contains various angle types. Have your students swap their images with a partner so they can colour-code, measure and label the angles.

An alternative to this activity is having students write their name on a piece of grid paper using only straight lines. Students then colour-code, measure and label the angles created by the straight lines in the letters of their name.

How to Download These Measuring Angles Worksheets

Use the dropdown menu next to the Download button above to access either the easy-print PDF or the editable Google Slides version of this resource. (Note: You will be prompted to make a copy of the Google Slides template before accessing it).

Hand out the protractors to your students, then get measuring!

As this resource contains answer sheets, we recommend printing one copy of the entire file. Then, remove the student worksheet pages to create your desired number of copies.
